TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ, Chis. (apro).- Un joven de 36 años, al parecer simpatizante del Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), fue acribillado a tiros la madrugada de este lunes por una persona que le disparó desde la camioneta donde viajaba el candidato del PRI a la alcaldía de Villaflores, Ulises Grajales Niño.

Los hechos ocurrieron alrededor de las dos de la mañana de este lunes, en el tramo carretero Villaflores-Ocozocuautla, a la altura del rancho-restaurante El Sinaloense.

US exempts Korea from Iranian oil sanctions

WASHINGTON (Yonhap) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Monday that South Korea will be exempt from Washington's sanctions on the Iranian oil industry, citing a significant reduction in crude imports from the Middle East country.

In a statement, Clinton also said India, Malaysia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Taiwan will be granted exceptions to sanctions under the National Defense Authorization Act that are aimed at curbing the financial source of Iran's nuclear program.

Como un sistema tributario en forma, empresarios y comerciantes han sido forzados a pagar un chantaje para que sus productos o sus instalaciones no sean robados o atacados.

Es el modelo con el que la mafia procede, lo mismo en Chicago, Nueva York, Nápoles o Sicilia.

Japan’s South Pacific summit directed against China

The US last month participated for the first time in Japan’s triennial Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting. The summit was established in 1997 to advance Japanese strategic interests in the region and boost economic ties, particularly in the tuna and fishing industry. Now, however, for both Tokyo and Washington the primary purpose of the diplomatic forum is to bolster their efforts to undermine Chinese influence in the South Pacific.

The Sixth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM6) was held on May 25 and 26 in Okinawa. Leaders and officials from Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) member states attended: Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Fiji (currently suspended), Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The Spanish bailout and the specter of the 1930s

The announcement that Spain will receive a €100 billion bailout from the European Financial Stability Facility marks a further intensification of the crisis of capitalism. The very fact that four years after the collapse of Lehman Brothers and two years after the first bailout of Greece it has become necessary to bail out one of the central economies of Europe belies all claims of the viability of capitalism.

The conditions under which the bailout was arranged make clear its ad-hoc and desperate character. The announcement came after the exertion of intense pressure by major powers—particularly the United States, Britain and France—on Germany, which had resisted the further printing of money to bolster the crumbling banking system in Europe. The rush to conclude the deal in advance of next Sunday’s Greek elections reflected the fears within the international bourgeoisie of a massive vote against austerity followed by a chain reaction run on the banks in Spain, Italy and other European countries and a financial meltdown greater than that of September 2008.

US cables back Guardian claims that Mexican presidential election frontrunner has been paying for favourable TV coverage

US diplomats raised concerns that the frontrunner in Mexico's presidential election, Enrique Peña Nieto, was paying for favourable TV coverage as far back as 2009, according to state department cables released by WikiLeaks.

Allegations that coverage by the country's main television network was biased in favour of Peña Nieto have triggered a wave of student demonstrations in the runup to the election on 1 July. The claims are supported by documents seen by the Guardian, which also implicate other politicians in buying news and entertainment coverage.

Su apoyo a Enrique Peña Nieto en la candidatura a la Presidencia debe verse a la luz de las dos posibilidades del párrafo anterior y descubrir por qué escogió la segunda: si para conservarnos debemos prescindir de Josefina Vázquez Mota, candidata de nuestro partido, hagámoslo a cambio de que su sacrificio nos garantice la permanencia en el mundo.

European leaders have long insisted they will do everything to save the euro. Now, a plan is forming that would dramatically change the architecture of the European Union. Brussels would be granted a significant say in national budgets and debt would be communalized. But the hurdles such a plan might face are high.

Politics is a strange business, and one of its premier oddities is that monumental changes are rarely heralded by great speeches. Addresses indicating a shifting course tend not to be of the visionary variety. And the public attention paid to such utterances often has no relation to their far-reaching consequences.

Often, in fact, it is only a tiny verbal adjustment that hints at a great change. Or a slightly different tone presaging a new direction.

Listening closely to Chancellor Angela Merkel in recent weeks has revealed just such a change in tone. It has been a careful shift, extremely nuanced. But it has become clear that her well-known melody is now a new one.
