“Accountability is key for G20” – researcher

The G20 group that represents two thirds of the world's population and 85% of its economy can be a very effective forum, but is yet to be as established as the G8.

That is the view of Alan Alexandroff, the co-director of the G20 Research Group, which is a global network of scholars and professionals.

He shared with RT his views on how efficient two forums are in dealing with the problems the world is facing.

“The G20 is new, it only formed in 2008. When they formed there was an acute economic crisis. Economically, they were looking at the abyss. We have a way to go before it establishes itself in the same way as the G8, which took decades,” Alan Alexandroff says.

For it to be an influential organization, the G20 has to deliver on its promises:

“Accountability is really the key issue for Canada and the other countries. Accountability means that they have to be concerned about all the commitments that they have been making, including the global imbalance question. And those commitments have to be implemented, it is important that they turn them into a real policy.”
