Casa Blanca cuenta con un plan de ataque contra Irán

WASHINGTON, 1ro de agosto.— El jefe del Estado Mayor Conjunto de EE.UU., almirante Mike Mullen, confirmó hoy en una entrevista en el programa dominical Meet the Press, de la cadena de televisión NBC, que el gobierno dispone ya del plan de ataque que estaba preparando en los últimos meses contra Irán, informó EFE.

El gobierno estadounidense emplea una estrategia de doble vía con Irán, la diplomática y la de las sanciones, al mismo tiempo, nunca ha dejado fuera la opción militar, advirtió Mullen. "Las opciones militares han estado sobre la mesa y siguen estándolo", subrayó.

Agregó que una acción militar contra la República Islámica —bajo el pretexto de que podría construir la bomba nuclear— podría tener "consecuencias no buscadas que son difíciles de predecir en lo que es una parte del mundo increíblemente inestable", explicó.

Mullen subrayó que la decisión de un eventual ataque militar tendría que tomarla el presidente Barack Obama.

ADVERTENCIA IRANÍ

TEHERÁN, 1ro de agosto.— Un alto responsable militar de los Guardianes de la Revolución, advirtió a Washington de una eventual acción militar contra Irán afirmando que amenazaría la seguridad en la región del Golfo, indicó la agencia Irna.

"Si Estados Unidos comete un error, la seguridad de la región estará en peligro. La seguridad de la región del Golfo Pérsico concierne a todo el mundo o a nadie", declaró el general Yadolá Javani, adjunto para los asuntos políticos del jefe de los Guardianes de la Revolución, según la agencia de prensa, citada por AFP.

"Nos defenderemos contra toda acción de Estados Unidos o de Israel", continuó, y afirmó que Irán "desarrolló su capacidad defensiva para reforzar su fuerza de disuasión".

Report: US has plan to strike Iran

The U.S. military has worked out a plan to militarily attack Iran, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff said Sunday, according to an Associated Press report.

Not long after Admiral Mike Mullen was aired on a Sunday talk show, the deputy chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guard was quoted as saying there would be a strong Iranian response should the U.S. take military action against his country.

Mullen, the highest ranking U.S. military officer, often has warned that a strike on Iran would have serious and unpredictable ripple effects around the Middle East. At the same time, Mullen said the risk of Iran's developing a nuclear weapon is unacceptable, although he would not say which risk he thinks is worse.

"I think the military options have been on the table and remain on the table," Mullen said on "Meet the Press" on NBC. "It's one of the options that the president has. Again, I hope we don't get to that, but it's an important option and it's one that's well understood."

The official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Revolutionary Guard deputy chief Yadollah Javani as saying Sunday that security in the Persian Gulf would be jeopardized "if Americans commit the slightest mistake."

"The Persian Gulf is a strategic region. If the security of this region is endangered, they will suffer losses and our response will be firm," Javani said.
