Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a consolatory message Tuesday to his Mexican counterpart Felipe Calderon after a swine flu outbreak has killed 152 people in the country.


In the message, Hu expressed sincere consolation to Calderon, the Mexican government and the people on behalf of the Chinese government, the Chinese people, as well as in his own name.

China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Mexico in addressing the challenges posed by the deadly influenza virus, Hu said, adding that China is ready to provide any assistance that may be necessary.

Hu said he believes that, under the leadership of Calderon and his government, the Mexican people will finally overcome the swine flu threat and resume their normal life and work at an early date.

The deadly flu has killed 152 people in Mexico so far and has spread to other countries. There are 51 confirmed cases in the United States and six cases in Canada.

None of the other cases reported in countries including the United States, Canada, Spain, Scotland and New Zealand have proved fatal to date.
